WIRES - Putting the life back into the wild (The NSW Wildlife Information and Rescue Service) is the largest wildlife organisation in Australia. Over the last 20 years they have established a network of volunteers who rescue, rehabilitate and release sick, injured or orphaned native wildlife. Each year they receive over 100,000 phone calls and rescue over 50,000 native animals from frightened koalas to distressed penguins. WIRES is a non-profit registered charity, where animal welfare always comes first. All their carers are voluntary, and give their time and emotions free of charge. WIRES relies on public donations which are tax deductible for amounts of $2.00 and over.

All WIRES carers undertake intensive training in native animal care, many specialising in specific species. The welfare of their native animals is a responsibility that should be of concern to all Australians and the rest of the world. After treatment - often involving intensive veterinary care nursing and rehabilitation by the rescuers and carers - animals are returned to the wild, with as little human intervention as possible. They need help.
